Sage Named a Top Performer on Social Mobility by U.S. News

Bush Memorial HallRussell Sage College is included among the Top Performers on Social Mobility in the 2021 edition of the U.S. News & World Report annual “Best Colleges” rankings. Sage is ranked number eight out of 389 national universities in this category.

This is the second year that U.S. News included a social-mobility category in its “Best Colleges” rankings. Sage was number 24 out of 381 national universities in this category last year.

The Top Performers on Social Mobility list highlights schools that have had success graduating large proportions of economically disadvantaged students, a population that is less likely than others to complete a college degree. U.S. News considers the percentage of enrolled and graduated students who have been awarded Pell grants to create the list. According to U.S. News, the vast majority of federal Pell grants are awarded to students with annual household incomes below $50,000.

“Access has been a key part of our mission since Russell Sage College was founded to provide educational opportunities to women in a society that limited them,” said Russell Sage College President Christopher Ames. “Today, as a coeducational college with two campuses, we are very much geared to addressing the economic components of unequal opportunity in our society. I am proud of this national recognition for our work to empower a diverse group of students to be full participants in the creative, economic and social life of the nation.”
